
We pretty much want the same things you want. We like you to respect
our time. We like you to be honest with us. We like it when
you are realistic.
Honesty
We cannot overstress this: being straightforward will help
you.
Tell us where you have interviewed. It won't
be helpful to you or to us if we try to introduce you to people
you have spoken to already. It makes us all look bad.
Tell us if you are working with another staffing firm.
We understand. We never blame you for doing what you think
is best. But if we don't know, then we can make mistakes that
cost us all.
Tell us about any problems with past jobs.
We can often give you valuable advice on how to minimize their
effect on your future. Usually they aren't nearly as bad as
you think. Occasionally they may be a little worse. We are
in a position to know, and if you trust us to help, we will
try. One thing is for certain: the sooner we know, the more
we can help. Letting past problems surface during the later
stages of the interview process is a great way to lose a great
job.
The more you trust us, the more we can help.
If you need to ask us questions to develop your trust, ask
away.
Being Realistic
Some people only contact us to perform miracles. Occasionally
we do, but usually we are limited by reality the same as everyone
else.
It is in our interests to negotiate the best situation we
can for you, but if you want a ten thousand dollar raise for
easier work within a block of your home, we are less likely
to find you what you want. (Not to say it hasn't happened!)
Let's suppose you insist, "I will only work within five
miles of my home." Now. let's say we don't find that,
but then you inform us later you took a job you never told
us about and don't like twenty miles away from your home.You
will have to forgive us for not having told you about a great
job ten miles away. This stuff really happens.
In general
In general the more forthcoming and realistic you can be with
us, the more attention we can afford to give you. Remember
we know the employers and talk to them frequently. If you
deal straight up with us, we will tell them that you are that
kind of person.
We want you to succeed whether it is through us or
not. We really do. Our whole business is staying
in touch with successful people. We have done it for thirty-five
